Juggling

(Sorry for the late post...connectivity issues here.)

I know we all do it, probably more than we'd prefer, but I'm curious...what do you all juggle out there?

Now, I'm not looking for a contest on who has it worse or who is busier or who does more, I'm interested in chatting about your life as an aspiring writer. Most of us work other jobs that pay the bills, have families, extra-cirricular activities and mego responsiblities in addition to our writing.

I'd like to know a little about all of you out there -- what's in your life aside from writing?

Me:
  • I'm married to a fireman with an insanely complex schedule and who's often gone.
  • I have two daughters, 14 and 10 who are in a variety of sports/activities.
  • I have 2 part time jobs that help pay the bills (or don't, whichever the case may be during any given month): I'm a sonographer (ultrasound technologist) working at a clinic nearby and a lampworker (glass bead artist) working from my garage and selling my work on ebay.
  • I started weight watchers and excercise to some degree everyday.
  • I belong to a writer's group that meets 2x a month for critiques.
  • I just started a scrapbooking group that meets 1x a month.

That's me...let's hear about YOU!!

I live on 70 acres with my husband. WE have 50 cows, three horses, four dogs, a goat, two ducks and a turkey. Our four kids are grown and I am currently in Ketchikan, Alaska awaiting a 5th grandchild. I work part time as a 4-H program assistant (which right now we are gearing up for county fair and when I return from Alaska will mean eight 12-16 hour days in a row), I am also a Girl Friday/Assistant to a civil rights lecturer, as well as associate editor at Wild Rose Press.

I am the president of our RWA chapter which means a 2 1/2 -3 hour trip one-way over the Cascade mountains once a month for the meetings. I've been approached to be the publicity chair for the HHRW online chapter. I am currently attempting to set up my first book signing in my area and am finding the task daunting.

That's me in a nutshell.

Besides writing, I'm mom to two kids, 11 & 8. I teach high school English and am also department head. I coach One Act and Literary. We're currently living in the middle of a whole-house renovation we're doing ourselves.

Can we say insane much?

- Full time job as web designer/programmer
- husband who owns a bar, for which I do the bookkeeping, web site, Yahoo newsletter/calendar, and all print promotional materials
- Daughter who, thankfully, doesn't do sports but still requires plenty of taxi-ing
- I'm the treasurer and webmistress of my local RWA chapter
- I'm the publicity chair of the FF&P RWA chapter
- I try to walk or work out several times a week (haven't been lately)
- And then there's the housework, home finances, cooking. etc. that usually goes along with being a wife/mom.

Sheesh! No wonder it takes me forever to finish writing a book.

Hoooo-wee! So fun to hear about you out there! Sometimes I feel like I'm writing into a void, and often wonder about other romance writers and their lives.

I have been involved in several critique groups, but no one else writes romance.

That's why I wanted to start my own RWA chapter. But I just got the names of RWA members up to a 2 hr drive south of me and 1 hr north of me and there are very few. I was shocked. Really...shocked!! Only 4 within 45 minutes drive, the other 6 or 8 2 hrs south.

Guess I won't be starting a RWA chapter...but it's great to have you gals here!!!
